Education

I was elected twice to the Hickman Mills school board, serving for 6 years. During my tenure, we significantly increased the district’s academic performance and moved our financial reserves from 3% up to 12%.

I support quality public education because it is the backbone any future improvements that we wish to sustain in Kansas for future generations. The children of today become the architects, the innovators, and the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

As a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, I will support legislation designed to adequately and fairly fund our public schools, colleges and universities and to support the Constitutional independence of the Kansas Supreme Court to review all legislation.

Taxation & Budget

I’m a small business owner and I can tell you definitively that Brownback’s failed tax experiment did nothing to increase my number of employees. It did not allow me the funds to reinvest in my business. The only thing it did was add a tiny bit of cash into my own pocket at the expense of our schools, our infrastructure, and our safety. I don’t consider that a reasonable tradeoff.

We need people in Topeka who can make intelligent choices when it comes to our budget. I believe that businesses should be appropriately taxed and we should use those funds judiciously to increase the quality of life for all Kansans.

Healthcare

I believe that utilizing federal dollars for Medicaid expansion should be a top priority. Not accepting such federal help – which we all help pay for – has cost the state over almost four billion dollars in much needed revenue, denied adequate health care to thousands of Kansans, and put tremendous and unnecessary strain on our entire health care system. This has put the lives and well-being of many Kansans at risk. It has also put at risk the economic future and the very existence of a number of small towns across the state.
